Mad. Sq. Holiday History
For over 10 decades, the Holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony in Madison Square Park has been a must-see attraction. It has a proud history of celebrating the holiday season—the first public Christmas tree in the United States was displayed in the Park on December 21, 1912. This historic tradition started as a way to allow all New Yorkers to enjoy the holiday spirit. And today, we are proud to continue that tradition.
Thank you to our sponsors Fjällräven, Bethpage Federal Credit Union, Eataly, Biscuits and Bath, Flatiron 23rd Street Partnership, Wagamama, and NYC Parks and Recreation.
