Mad. Sq. Reads: Sophie McManus
This session of Mad. Sq. Reads will take place at the Park’s Southern Fountain.
Our first edition of Mad. Sq. Reads 2015 will feature author Sophie McManus. Sophie’s debut novel, The Unfortunates, was lauded for the keen way it “uncovers the humanity of a group that rarely receives our empathy even as she exposes the dark side of privilege and entitlement.” This contemporary American is a tragedy of breathtaking scope: a dramatic story of pharmaceutical trials and Wall Street corruption; of pride and prejudice; of paranoia and office politics; of inheritance, influence, class, and power.
Joining McManus in discussion will be Julia Fierro, the author of the novel Cutting Teeth, published in 2014, and the forthcoming The Gypsy Moth Summer. A graduate of the Iowa Writer’s Workshop, she founded The Sackett Street Writers’ Workshop in 2002, now a creative home to over 2,500 writers.
Join us in the North end of Mad. Sq. Park on the steps of Augustus Saint-Gaudens’ Farragut Monument to celebrate this author, and to hear her read a passage from this extraordinary novel.
Mad. Sq. Reads is co-curated by NeueHouse.
