We’re excited to announce that Madison Square Park has been added as a site on The New York State Birding Trail, connecting our park with all of the best birding locations across the state.

Birding is a great, relaxing outdoor activity that can be done year-round. And whether you’ve been birding for years or have yet to try it, Madison Square Park is the perfect place to go to spot a variety of bird species. To help begin your search, you can see a full list of the 113 unique bird species that have been spotted in the park here.

Whether you identify a raptor like our resident red-tailed hawk, or a tiny songbird like the black-capped chickadee, you can share your discoveries with us on Instagram, or by using a mobile app like iNaturalist or eBird. Each finding helps our team better understand how different species are using the park, and supports us as we continue to protect the birds, their habitats, and food sources.

The recognition of the park as an ideal birding location by the New York State Department of Conservation will allow us to provide more walks, talks, and other programs to help visitors learn more about the birds we love. Stay tuned for more opportunities to get outdoors, connect with nature, and join a growing community of birders across New York State!
