Oval Lawn Recap: Chris Potter Underground Orchestra
Mad. Sq. Music: Oval Lawn Series began Wednesday night, featuring some ethereal and incredible modern jazz from Chris Potter Underground Orchestra.
The term orchestra for this group is no exaggeration. Their 11 members played a multitude of instruments including two violins, viola, cello, upright bass, electric bass, guitar, piano, vibes, marimba, and drum set. Bandleader Chris Potter captivated the audience with some flashy and smart improv on tenor sax, soprano sax, and bass clarinet. The virtuosity did not end there though; nearly every member was highlighted by solos filled with really impressive displays of technique, musicality, and groove. Avid jazz fans and the general public alike came to see the group perform songs from their recent album Imaginary Cities. Concertgoers enjoyed lobster rolls and drinks from food partner Burger & Lobster. Melt Bakery was also onsite to provide tasty ice cream sandwiches throughout the night.
A big thank you from Mad. Sq. Music to the Chris Potter Underground Orchestra for a spectacular start to the Oval Lawn Series!
