Mad. Sq. Holiday Wrap-Up

Our 2014 Mad. Sq. Holiday Celebration this past Tuesday was a beautiful evening, and we were so happy to see so many of you there! The evening featured plants big and small, from the impressive illumination of the grand tree of light to Gardener Steph’s M.U.C.K plant propagation workshop, which sent visitors home with their own, live redtwig dogwood plant.

The musical accompaniment had us grooving all evening long, with free, festive entertainment from Motown the Musical and Audra Rox. Meanwhile, exploratory types could wander around in and outside of Taste of Home‘s Gingerbread Boulevard, which featured three life-sized Gingerbread houses, each celebrating a different beloved Holiday flavor — Peppermint, Cocoa, and Cinnamon.

To make sure no one went hungry during the celebration, an array of holiday treats were provided. Hill Country Chicken brought warmed up, delicious apple pie bites and apple cider, SD26 Restaurant and Wine Bar provided savory Pappa Pomodoro (tomato soup), and Frittering Away quenched everyone’s thirst with Hot Apricot Ginger Lemonade and Strawberry Basil Lemonade.

The crowning glory of the evening, of course, was the beautifully illuminated Tree of Light. The City of Strasbourg, France, famous for its Christmas festivities, contributed beautiful hand-blown blue glass bulbs, decorated with gold wire, to the tree’s decorations, and they looked beautiful snuggled into the trees branches in between enormous snowflakes.

Thank you to our Mad. Sq. Holiday Sponsors Taste of Home, Greater Strasbourg Tourist Office, LEGO, Hill Country Chicken, Flatiron 23rd Street Partnership, SD26 Restaurant and Wine Bar, and Frittering Away.
