Kids Fest: Stages in the Square Recap

Kids Fest: Stages in the Square came to life on Saturday, October 17 with three vibrant stages, a packed Eats section, sponsor activations, a workshop area, welcoming thousands of families ready to enjoy a day of creative fun and performing arts.

The three stages hosted a diverse series of high energy performances by Sonia De Los Santos, Joanie Leeds & The Nightlights, Brunch Baby, Brunch, Sing for Hope Youth Chorus, Songs for Seeds, Story Laurie, Catskill Puppet Theater, Children’s Shakespeare Theatre, Story Pirates, The Amazing Max, Big Apple Circus, and Calpulli Mexican Dance Company.

Beside Evergold Stage was the raucous games section, which got kids and their parents competing in a bean bag toss, hay bail bowling, badminton, hula hooping, jump rope, and coloring at the Mad. Sq. Park Explore Cart.

On the eastern edge of the Park was The Green Room. This lawn is where kids get dolled up in their festival garb. There was a costume swap, face painting, and Big Apple Circus was there adorning people with clown noses.

Taking over Cherry Lawn were the interactive Workshops led by Calpulli Mexican Dance Company, Broken Box Mime Theater, The Little Orchestra Society, and Path to Rhythm.

The southern gravel was bustling with families getting their fill from the savory and sweet offerings of the Eats section. This year featured delicious treats from Hill Country Barbecue Market, Hill Country Chicken, Melt Bakery, Burger & Lobster, Melt Shop, and Andy’s Italian Ices.

Thank you to the sponsors who made all of this possible – New York Life, Taste of Home, New York Family, LEGO, Apple Seeds, Hill Country Barbecue Market, Hill Country Chicken, Bebe & Jules, and New York City Department of Parks and Recreation.
