Fall Planting 2015

Our garden crew is busy planting our gardens for their transition into fall. While many of our summer plantings will remain, there are some new faces showing up in our display beds throughout the Park.

The Knot Garden located in front of Shake Shack has already had its fall makeover. A variety of perennial Asters now pepper the planting. These Asters will be moved to more permanent locations throughout the Park later this fall, where they can be enjoyed year after year. Two varieties, Aster ‘Marie Ballard’ and Aster ‘Lady in Black,’ are included in this planting. Aster ‘Lady in Back’ is particularly striking with white petals and dark purple stamens.

Two different sedges, Carex ‘Blue Zinger’ and Carex ‘Evergold’ are also included in this planting. These grass-like plants feature colorful foliage that acts as an understory for taller plantings.

The urns around the fountain have also been updated with fall blooming grasses such as Pennisetum ‘Rubrum’ which rustles in the wind. The containers also feature a few of our favorite foliage plants including Euphorbia ‘Ascot Rainbow’ and Coleus ‘Telltale Heart.’ Check out the tiny blooms of Phygelius ‘Devil’s Tears’ which have striking detail when viewed from below.

This planting is definitely getting us in the fall spirit.
