Help Us Support Houston’s Buffalo Bayou Park
Dear MSPC Community,
Without doubt, you’ve heard about the unprecedented devastation that Hurricane Harvey has wrought upon the state of Texas, and in particular, the city of Houston.
Like many people across the U.S., members of the Conservancy staff (including one native Houstonian), are contemplating, “what can I do?” After some discussion, we are calling upon our community of built-in park lovers to help support another cherished public space, Houston’s Buffalo Bayou.
In speaking with Anne Olson, President of Buffalo Bayou Partnership—the non-profit organization dedicated to revitalizing and transforming Buffalo Bayou, Houston’s most significant natural resource—we learned just how much they need us. While they are unable to completely assess the scope of the damage, she knows that all park equipment, including lawn mowers and park vehicles, have been destroyed. Additionally, Buffalo Bayou is still two thirds under water, which has caused significant impact to their infrastructure, including erosion and cave-ins, and they expect more damage to come.
Through Thursday, September 14th, all donations made to Madison Square Park Conservancy will go directly to Buffalo Bayou Partnership as they plan to rebuild after the devastation of Hurricane Harvey.
