Mad. Sq. Holiday 2016

2014_logosJoin us for Madison Square Park’s annual tree lighting ceremony and festivities on Tuesday, December 6 from 3:30-5:30pm. The countdown to the illumination of our Tree of Light, a 40-foot balsam fir brought to the Park all the way from Vermont, will begin at 4:55pm.

Our festive celebration will feature a variety of seasonal activities including a Mad. Sq. Hort seed packet activity with Gardener Steph, festive performances from The Sweetback Sisters, The New York Life Singers, and kids performer – and Mad. Sq. Park favorite – Audra Rox. Taste of Home‘s Gingerbread Blvd. will also be onsite to help set the Holiday mood.

Holiday treats will be provided by neighborhood restaurants Black BarnHill Country Chicken, Umi Kitchen, Almond, and Shake Shack.

Update: In order to make the Mad. Sq. Holiday festivities an enjoyable experience for all, we will be instituting mandatory stroller parking at the event. Please leave valuables at home. Thank you for your understanding.

Did you know that Mad. Sq. Park was home to America’s first community tree lighting ceremony in 1912? This historic tradition has carried with it a legacy of community building in Mad. Sq. Park that continues today, over one hundred years later.

Special thanks to our Mad. Sq. Holiday sponsors: Taste of Home, Lowe’s, Flatiron/23rd Street Partnership, Hill Country Chicken, Hill Country Barbecue Market, and The New York City Department of Parks and Recreation.
