Last night was the first double bill concert of the Mad. Sq. Music season, and what a perfect summer night it was. Packed night with over 2,000 concert goers filling the Oval Lawn, Gretchen Parlato started the night off with her signature melodious voice, singing hits from her latest release,The Lost and Found. With her intricate use of eclectic sounds, including the alternating strong and soft clapping of hands and Brazilian rattles, Parlato injected the park’s atmosphere with warmth and song.
Grammy Award nominated Gregory Porter was the second artist to grace the stage, stirring his fans with his very first note. He sang the all-time favorite “Be Good” and several other songs dedicated to his mother and Harlem. Charismatic and charming, Porter performed a set that truly was unforgettable for fans old and new.
