On Monday, March 14, the International Art Critics Association presented Mad. Sq. Art and Antony Gormley’s “Event Horizon” with the award for Best Exhibition in Public Space in 2010. The exhibition marked the U.S. public art debut of Gormley, the renowned British sculptor, and brought 31 life-sized bronze figures to the rooftops and sidewalks of Madison Square Park and the surrounding Flatiron neighborhood.
The Event Horizon store is still offering copies of the limited-edition Event Horizon New York exhibition catalogue, a beautiful hard cover document of Antony Gormley’s landmark exhibition. The book features photography by James Ewing, a short story by celebrated author Colm Tóibín, and reflections on the exhibition from Danny Meyer, Deborah Berke, Paula Scher, Martin Friedman and NYC Parks and Recreation Commissioner Adrian Benepe, among others. Pick one up today before it’s too late!
Congratulations to Antony on his triumphant U.S. public art debut, and thanks to everyone who helped us make Event Horizon such a success!
